'Silent Partner' Wins Tech Award
The Truck Writers of North America (TWNA) has given its Technical Achievement Award for 1999 to Donaldson Co.'s Silent Partner engine brake silencer. Silent Partner is a bolt-in replacement for standard vertical truck mufflers. Its builder offers to pay any fines related to excessive noise if a truck is equipped with the product. Tied for second place were the side-by-side cooling system of the Peterbilt 387 tractor and the Eaton Fuller Lightning transmission. Also in the running was Air-Weigh's AW5600 on-board scale.
