Low NOx Argosy
This spring, Freightliner began testing an advanced diesel emissions reduction system in a fleet of Argosy COEs. The Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system may eventually be able to reduce oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions by as much as 75% without a corresponding loss of fuel economy. The SCR system injects aqueous urea into the exhaust flow. Inside the catalyst the urea breaks NOx down into nitrogen and water vapor. The test units are installed on eight Argosy tractors owned by Valley Material Transportation Inc., French Camp, Calif.
