Most drivers, whether truckers or motorists, just look through the windshield, but Richard McGrew sees. And when he sees a special scene, he whips out a camera and captures it on film. Now he shares some of his visions of America in a book, The America You May Never See. McGrew learned photography while working on newspapers in high school, and studied it at the University of Alabama.
Although he decided not to pursue it as a career, McGrew never gave up looking through the lens. As a driver for the GE Plastics dedicated fleet of Crete Carrier Corp., he's had the chance to see most of America. The America You May Never See, includes scenes ranging from the ordinary, such as the Mayberry USA Snappy Lunch in Mt. Airy, N.C., to the extraordinary, like the sight of a rainbow come to earth in Arizona. It retails for $11.95 plus $3.95 S&H; order at (800) 247-6553; www.atlasbooks.com or e-mail order@bookmaster.com. You can also special order from Barnes & Noble.
