Five lucky members of the TA RoadKing Club will soon be tooling around in new Dodge Ram pickups as winners of TA's "Swipe Your Way to a Dodge" sweepstakes.
And a receptionist whose son used her AT&T calling card at a TA took home a fully restored 1948 Chevrolet pickup from the Mid-America Trucking Show as winner of the "Cruisin' for Classics" sweepstakes sponsored by TA and AT&T.
The grand prize winners of the Dodge Rams were Thomas Valencia, a driver for Sea-TAX Box Co.; Jon Moore, Landstar Ranger; Jose Mejia, Schneider Transport; Brian Taylor, Core Carriers; and Vincent Auletta, Southwestern Express. Five other drivers also collected 50,000 TA RoadMiles as runners -up.
To enter, contestants had to be professional drivers at least 21 years old, hold a valid CDL and be members of the TA RoadKing Club. They could enter either by swiping their RoadKing Club cards at a TA or by mailing in an entry form. Most of the 1.7 million entries came via card swipes.
The winners said they have plans for their new trucks. Mejia plans to use it "to commute to work, as my own personal vehicle. I had just sold my car when I won, so it was great timing. We only had my wife's car and my rig, but I'm considering doing some work locally at the Schneider office, so I can use the truck to commute to work." Brian Taylor notes, "My current pickup's about run out; it's an '85. So this is great. Now I have a new one."
The drivers also praised the TA RoadKing Club. "It's great. I just used it today - bought 140 gallons of fuel," Valencia says. "The Club does it all for you - it has everything you need." Moore, who said he prefers to stop at TAs, agrees: "I like it a lot. It makes it a lot easier - everything is right there at the kiosk, everything you'd need. It's great." Noted Auletta, "They're (RoadKing Club locations) the only place I'll stop to fuel. The showers, the way employees treat customers, the cleanliness, the way things are dealt with - they're much better than other stops."
Meanwhile, a casual phone call netted Marsha Gray of DeLand Fla., a classic Chevy pickup in the TA-AT&T contest. In this contest, you entered every time you used an AT&T calling card at a TA location. Gray, a receptionist at a car dealership, had loaned her calling card to her son, Brent, when he went to a wedding in Vermont. He stopped at a TA along the way and made some calls, one of which came up a winner - for Mom.
