Solemn Salute Truckers honor one of their own, 9/11/01 victims
by Bill Hudgins
Red, white and blue dominated the Sixth Annual Richard Crane Memorial Truck Show in St. Ignace, Mich., this year. Held Sept. 14-16, the show was overshadowed by the terrorist attacks that week. But organizers and participants agreed the show should go on. In August, the National Association of Show Trucks had dedicated the Road King Magazine Parade of Lights over the Mackinac Straits Bridge to Ruth Jones, a NAST member and senior editor of LandLine magazine, who died from cancer in June. Her husband, Dee, showed their company truck and led the parade, which was rededicated to the memory of the victims of the attacks. Lights aglow, horns stilled, nearly 100 trucks crossed the bridge in a powerful, silent tribute.
