Pulling Power
Ever think you could go faster if you got out and pulled? Maybe you need Magnus Ver Magnusson as your co-driver. The 287-pound Icelander is four-time winner of the World's Strongest Man contest. On July 25 at the Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Ill., he twice pulled a 61,400-pound rig from a dead stop. The event was presented by Michelin Tires' Retread division. The rig wore a competitor's retreads during the first pull of 18 feet, 11.5 inches, and Michelin Retreads during the second of 29 feet, 4 inches. The idea was to show the Michelins offered less rolling resistance, and thus can improve fuel efficiency.
