Satellite Radios for Freightliners, Sterlings
DaimlerChrysler, the parent company of Freightliner Corp. will invest $100 million in Sirius Satellite Radio and also start installing the new receivers in Freightliner and Sterling trucks by next year. Sirius Radio promises subscribers it can deliver seamless, coast-to-coast coverage of as many as 100 channels of programming, including 50 channels of commercial-free music and up to 50 of news, sports and entertainment. The programs are beamed to earth from orbiting satellites. Subscribers pay $9.95 a month for the service. Sirius has been working with major electronics manufacturers to build the units, and with entertainment companies to develop regularly scheduled programs for its service.
