"People Love trucks." The late Richard Guerrera believed that so strongly, he worked to create The Golden Age of Trucking Museum in southwest Connecticut to house his collection of over 20 big rigs from the late 1930s to the 1970s. As the museum's name implies, the focus is on antique trucks from the 1950s.
"In the 1950s, there was a certain charisma to these machines," said Guerrera, who started R.J. Guerrera Trucking in 1969. "The trucks of the 50s had souls; they were alive. They had a different look to them and a different sound."
Although Guerrera passed away in 1999, his dream became a reality with the opening of the museum last year. On dislpay you'll find a 1929 Diamond T, a 1955 GMC 860 "Cannonball" and pristine Macks, Studebakers and Dodges, such as those pictured here. Guerrera started collecting trucks in 1985, first restoring a 1963 Model B61Mack.
The museum also features the "Interactive Interstate" room, a hands-on educational center offering big rig arcade games, books and children's truck toys. There's a library of transportation-related books, journals and magazines and a gift shop.
