Almost nothing is as frustrating as an itch you know you shouldn't scratch. For most skin irritations that itch like crazy, scratching only makes the condition worse.
Help is at hand, and it's no farther than your kitchen or bathroom. Here are some home remedies for common summer skin problems that you might want to keep in your cab, in case the urge to itch strikes when you're on the road:
Mosquito Bites
Squeeze a glob of toothpaste on the bite. The mint will cool the skin as it slowly dries, which should provide some relief.
Poison Ivy
Baking soda is your friend here. Take a tablespoon and add water until it mixes into a paste. Dab it on the rash, and let it dry.
Sunburn
Get some relief by adding uncooked oatmeal to a cool bath. The protein in the oats will help your damaged skin to heal that burn.
Chigger bites
These tiny (1/50th of an inch wide) pests are found in open fields and wooded areas. Nail polish can help to ease the itching from the red bumps they leave. The polish seals the area off from the air, reducing the itch. Just be sure to use clear nail polish, or you'll have some explaining to do.
Athletes Foot
To get rid of this irritating itch, soak your feet in hot water, using one part white vinegar to four parts water. Soak your tootsies for 20 - 30 minutes, two times per day, until you start to feel sweet relief.
