As part of its sponsorship agreement, Freightliner Trucks has presented five new Coronado heavy-duty trucks to the NASCAR race teams owned by racing legend Richard Petty.
Each Coronado, at 132-inch bbc, is custom-painted with the distinctive graphics of the individual sponsors of Kyle Petty's #45 Georgia Pacific Dodge, John Andretti's #43 General Mills Dodge and Christian Fittapaldi's #44 Dodge Intrepid R/T. Three of the trucks will haul the racecars and equipment to NASCAR races nationwide, while the other two will see duty at various tracks around the country where Petty crews conduct tests on their cars and equipment.
"I jumped into the #43 Coronado as soon as it was delivered to Petty Enterprises," said Richard Petty, considered the most successful NASCAR driver of all time. "These things are not only beautiful on the outside, they are so big inside that I'm considering trading my motorcoach for one of these trucks. Guess I know why our guys always take the long way to the track."
Richard Petty won a record seven Daytona 500s, seven Winston Cup championships and 200 career NASCAR races. He now owns and operates Petty Enterprises, which runs teams in the Winston Cup and Craftsman Truck Series.
Petty's son Kyle, CEO of Petty Enterprises, said he was struck by the Coronado's looks.
"The Coronado is a beautiful truck," Kyle Petty said. "With the graphics of each team and the exceptional paint jobs, the elegant style of the Coronado is hard to miss whether it's on the road or parked in back of pit row."
