Double Your Pleasure?
New gum would work like Viagra

The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company, makers of Juicy Fruit and Big Red, has plans for a new gum that would provide a dose of the generic equivalent of Viagra to chewers.

According to the patent application filed by Wrigley, a man would have to chew the gum, which would require a prescription, for two minutes about one half-hour before having sex.

Chewing gum to get in the mood may seem a bit odd, but there's certainly a market. Since it was introduced in 1998, Viagra has been a worldwide hit. Nine Viagra tablets are dispensed every second worldwide, according to Pfizer Inc.

And other medicines have been put in gum, including antacids, aspirin and nicotine. Don't look for the juiced-up gum any time soon, though. Wrigley can't begin selling the gum until at least 2011, when Pfizer's patent for Viagra expires.
