Country supergroup Alabama will soon reach the end of the road. Alabama's final journey, dubbed The American Farewell Tour, wraps up in November.
The members of Alabama - Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry, Jeff Cook, and Mark Herndon - have hinted that they may record again in the future, but all signs point to this being their final tour.
The best-selling country band of all time has created an amazing legacy: 42 chart-topping singles, over 150 industry awards and more than 70 million albums sold. During an unprecedented streak that started in 1980 and ended in 1987, Alabama released 21 consecutive No. 1 hits.
Alabama's music has endured for decades, and it will continue to be cherished by fans who have grown up singing along to "Feels So Right," "Roll On (Eighteen Wheeler)," "Song of the South," "Mountain Music" and "The Closer You Get."
Looking back on all the years of playing concerts, Owen says, "We really tried to push the boundaries of our music. We worked very hard at trying to make every live performance a special experience for our fans. We still feel the same way."
In the '80s, the quartet revolutionized country concerts by incorporating innovative staging and video techniques. Alabama was the first country group to have its logo painted on the big rigs that haul its elaborate concert equipment. Those trucks have rolled across the United States dozens of times, racking up thousands of miles, and generating millions of smiles. The engines are revved up for one more tour, and it's going to be a nostalgic blast.
