Suzy Bogguss
Swing
(Compadre Records)

Suzy Bogguss has scored country hits with "Aces" and "Drive South," but her latest album finds her playing the role of cabaret chanteuse. This collection of swinging jazz includes standards composed by Nat King Cole ("Straighten Up and Fly Right") and Duke Ellington ("Do Nothing Till You Hear from Me"), but the five new songs written by April Barrows are what make this album such a pleasant surprise. Bogguss has selected material that is perfectly suited to her fine sense of melody and phrasing.

Lisa Marie Presley
To Whom It May Concern
(Capitol)

Lisa Marie Presley inherited more than just her father's fortune and good looks. The 35-year-old singer's debut is a solid, if unspectacular, showcase for her husky alto. Presley's breathy vocals are enveloped by dense, layered production techniques that give this modern rock album an atmospheric vibe reminiscent of the Wallflowers or Sheryl Crow. Several songs sound a bit too similar, and there's occasional profanity in the lyrics, but if you can overlook such issues, this disc will become a guilty pleasure.

Fleetwood Mac
Say You Will
(Reprise)

Since the late 80s, personnel shifts have been a key issue for Fleetwood Mac. This studio album almost reunites the classic lineup - Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood are back, but Christine McVie is not. These veterans pull off the difficult task of making relevant music that is neither trendy nor nostalgic. The fireworks really fly when Buckingham's and Nick's voices harmoniously intertwine.
