This season, when you're hunting to get away from it all, you can give a little too. Hunters for the Hungry are nonprofit organizations that encourage recreational hunters to serve their community while enjoying their favorite sport of the season. Located across the country, Hunters for the Hungry cooperates with meat processors and food care providers to use donations from hunters to feed those in need through soup kitchens, homeless shelters and food pantries.
The name of the program differs from state to state, but the success of these groups is manifested in the hundreds of thousands of pounds of meat they deliver to the hungry each year. In most cases, you can donate as little as a pound of meat and you may be asked to pay a $20-$40 processing fee. Most programs only accept venison, but check with a location near you for the rules that apply to your state. Go to www.nrahq.org.
