Super Bowl Sunday has become an unofficial holiday and grown beyond football fans to become a part of American culture.
In fact, some would argue that the event is less about how the teams perform and more about the hoopla surrounding the game, from the commercials to the celebrity-filled half-time show.
This year's matchup takes place at Reliant Stadium in Houston, Texas on February 1st. Here's a look at how the matchup has grown in its 35 years:
- The price for a reserved seat at Super Bowl I (held at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum) was $10. The price of a reserved seat this year is over $400.
- The 10 most-watched shows in the history of TV are Super Bowls.
- The average price for a 30-second Super Bowl commercial in 1967 was $42,000. This year, it's $2.4 million. That's right, $2.4 million for 30 seconds.
