Bridging the Flood
Road King salutes Joe Grandy, an owner/operator from Dudley, N.C., for helping save families from last year's floods in Greenville, N.C. Grandy is leased to Security Storage Co., an agent for Mayflower Transit in Goldsboro, N.C. He was headed home from Virginia to check on his family after Hurricane Floyd struck the East Coast with days of rain. Rising waters trapped him on the north side of Greenville. The fire chief in Greenville asked Grandy, as well as other truckers, to help evacuate 350 families whose homes were threatened by flooding. Even as he worried about his family, Grandy and the others pitched in to move people, pets and belongings to safer ground.
