Make a Stop
Here's an offbeat roadside attraction

The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Plymouth Rock get all the tourists. But here's an attraction you might not be aware of that's worth a stop.

The RV and Manufactured Home Hall of Fame is located in Elkhart, Indiana. Why there? You may not be aware of it, but Elkhart is the "RV Capital of the World." This midwestern town is home to the headquarters of nearly 40 RV companies, including Skyline, Coachman, and Holiday Rambler.

It makes sense that the Hall of Fame, housing a collection of antique trailers, memorabilia, historic photographs and artifacts of the RV industry, would make a home here. The museum exhibits the first RV ever made (built in 1915) and other rolling pleasure palaces of the 1950s and '60s.

The Museum opened in 1991 and presents technological advancements in the industry from before WWI to the present.

There's also a library of RVs and manufactured homes, which houses thousands of volumes of periodicals, records and photos. It's frequently used for research by industry writers and university historians, as well as by RV owners searching for the background of their historic units.
