Roy D. Mercer Hits the Road
(Capitol) $16.98
You might be familiar with Roy D. Mercer, an Oklahoma radio personality who has spent the past decade duping folks with prank phone calls. This album is built around stories and calls related to Roy's travels and includes calls to the U.S. and overseas.
No one is safe from Mercer, whether you are the ticket taker at the Coliseum in Rome, where Mercer tries to rent the place to put on a tractor pull, or a hotel clerk in France, where Mercer attempts to organize a tailgate party for some close friends for the Notre Dame game.
Super Bad Sounds of the '70s

This latest release from comic Tim Wilson is a bit of a departure from his usual hillbilly radio routine. Here, he shows off his blues roots by spoofing an episode of Soul Train, including fake commercials, song dedications and guest artists.
"I grew up listening to the brilliant records made by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff, Thom Bell, Barry White, Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield and so many great artists of the period between 1967 to about 1976," Wilson says.
He may be paying homage to his R&B heroes, but Wilson still manages to make fun of his usual subject matter: NASCAR, double-wide trailers, cell phones and blind dates.
"While listening to this record, I implore you to remember that I am only trying to be funny in a lyrical sense," he says. "I take this music as seriously as I do the national anthem. At no time have I approached this project disrespectfully in terms of the music or the culture from from which that great music came."
