Live Like a Millionaire
Even if you haven't won the lottery

Think hauling goods on the nation's highways is far removed from the millionaire lifestlye?

Think again. You're probably living more like a millionaire than Donald Trump.

In the best-selling book The Millionaire Next Door, authors Thomas Stanley and William Danko revealed that most millionaires are not born wealthy or holding down flashy jobs. In fact, most are living simply, working hard and - most importantly - practicing self-discipline.

"The flashy millionaires glamorized by the media actually represent only a tiny minority of America's rich," Stanley and Danko say in the book. "Most of the truly wealthy in this country don't live in Beverly Hills or on Park Avenue - they live next door."

Although few would claim that money equals happiness, everyone can take a lesson from millionaires on how to create a satisfying and financially secure life.

What It Takes
6 Steps to Wealth

After surveying 1,115 millionaires across the country, authors Stanley and Danko came up with seven common denominators among those who have succesfully built wealth:

1. They live well below their means.

2. They allocate their time, energy and money efficiently, in ways conducive to building wealth.

3. They believe that financial independence is more important than displaying high social status.

4. Their parents did not give them large economic gifts. Children are economically self-sufficient.

5. They are proficient in targeting market opportunities.

6. They chose the right occupations. These include owning their own business, such as owner-operator truck drivers.
