Born on July 4, 2004, the American Truckers Advocacy Council intends to provide support, education and protection to truckers nationwide.
"We are this nation's lifeblood," says David Milligan, chairman of the newly created non-profit. "The job we do is the single most important job in America. We want to make sure truckers are treated fairly."
The Council plans to be a resource for truckers, help them find loads or jobs, or address problems with the DOT or employers.
"We plan to be a resource for truck drivers," Milligan says, who along with the other founders is a company driver. "Often, drivers feel they have no where else to turn."
Membership in the Council is $50 a year.
