Help Staying Healthy On the Road

By Ed Kuhn, Chairman, CEO of TravelCenters of America

Staying fit and eating healthy are among the most important lifestyle habits we can all form. Yet for many of us, taking care of our health often takes a back seat to day-to-day stresses and demands.

Drivers especially have it tough. Being on the road and away from home for days at a time seems to make eating right and exercising inconvenient. That's why this issue of Road King is focused on advice and tips for maintaining your health and fitness.

Every day, we all make choices about what we are going to eat or drink and how much we are going to exercise. By simply paying more attention to some of these choices, you can make a real difference in your health. Take a look at the article about simple food choices you can make the next time you pull into the travel store for a snack. Or get some ideas on how to fit exercise into a spare 10 minutes on the road, in the article on portable fitness strategies.

To help give you options when you eat out while on the road, TravelCenters of America offers lower-carb and healthy menu items in our full-service restaurants and on our buffets. And buffets offer a way for you to exercise portion control in the meals you are selecting, which is especially useful if you always feel you have to clean your plate.

At TA, we want to help you make the choices that make you feel best. If you have a suggestion on how TA can help you stay healthy on the road, drop me an e-mail at edkuhn@roadking.com, or write to me at Road King, 28 White Bridge Road, Suite 209, Nashville, Tenn., 37205.
