Here's five tips to make sure you're getting the most from your brushing:

  1. Get the right-shaped brush
  2. Check your brushing technique with your dentist
  3. Do not scrub your teeth; be sure you are brushing them gently
  4. Floss
  5. Brush for no more than two minutes at least once a day

BRUSH OFF

Too much tooth brushing not good

Here's a case where the best of intentions may backfire.

If you've made an effort to renew your efforts at keeping your teeth healthy, spending more time brushing your teeth may be doing more harm than good.

University researchers found that brushing for more than two minutes can trigger the risk of damage to gums, particularly if you press too hard with the bristles.

So if you've been tediously spending time over the sink in an attempt to keep your choppers healthy, be gentle and time yourself.
