Parasitic drag from fans is a huge energy waster. Some engine-driven fans consume upwards of 30 hp. That's why most trucks have some form of fan clutch to disengage the fan when not needed. An alternative to traditional fan clutches, the Thermal Star brushless electric fan drive from Electric Fan Engineering, (800) 338-4120, is maintenance free. Temperature sensors turn it on and off as needed. EFE fans consume only 2 hp and draw 12,000 cubic feet per minute through the radiator. They weigh about 30 pounds, but replace ordinary fans, fan clutches and belts.
