Professional Drivers Prefer I-80 Stopping Center

Coincidentally, the city slogan for Sparks, Nevada—It’s Happening Here—is the perfect fit for the full-service-plus approach you’ll find at the newly renovated Petro Sparks Stopping Center, Alamo Casino and Super 8 Hotel complex located along I-80 at Exit 21.

Iron Skillet® Upgrades

Several upgrades and improvements have already been made to the Iron Skillet restaurant and more are on the way in the coming weeks. You’ll love the new, more upscale décor—some already installed and some yet to come—as well as exciting menu changes and additions.

Among the upgrades already installed are wood-grain tile flooring and new restaurant seating. New booths and a truckers’ counter have convenient plug-ins. The counter has already proven to be great for facilitating conversation among truckers.

A new buffet bar and a new soup and salad bar—easy reach with great lighting—have already received rave reviews. A breakfast waffle bar has proven to be a big hit, and the new in-house fudge is a spectacular treat. Some great menu changes and other exciting amenities are on the way. In a matter of weeks, the restaurant transformation will be complete. But don’t wait. GM Sherry Land-Chizek and her team are ready to serve you now.

On the grab-n-go front, you’ll have a fully stocked World Blends® coffee bar and Cool Cup fountain beverages. A wide selection of StayFit® and Good2Go food items and some great hot meal choices have proven very popular.

You’ll find additional driver amenities including a barbershop, chiropractor, DOT screening, copy / fax service, drop boxes for UPS/FedEx/TripPak, and DAT load monitors. The drivers lounge, TV room, laundry facilities, 14 showers and StayFit® fitness room are first class.

Whatever Your Game, Sparks is a Happening Place

Named after “Honest” John Sparks, the 10th governor of Nevada (1903-1908), this adjoining city northeast of Reno has established an identity of its own. Covering 35.9 square miles, Sparks is located above the base of the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains at a high-desert elevation of approximately 4,500 feet, just 15 minutes east of the Nevada-California state line on I-80.

Sparks averages about 300 days each year with at least some sunshine and has a semi-arid, high-desert climate. Average annual precipitation is only 8.26 inches with 7.0 inches falling as snow (about one inch). The thriving population has grown more than 43 percent since 2000, now exceeding 95,000.

The four-season weather is conducive to a wide range of outdoor activities.

Available virtually year-around, 50 championship golf courses, hiking, biking, camping, horseback riding, rock climbing, mountaineering, boating, sailing, kayaking, diving, water skiing, rafting and windsurfing draw millions of visitors each year. For winter fun at higher elevations, the surrounding area offers 18 world-class alpine and cross-country ski resorts, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, ice climbing, sledding, and ice skating.

The Reno-Sparks area is known for some outstanding annual events that attract several hundred thousand additional tourists year after year including the Hot August Nights Car Show, Street Vibrations Motorcycle Festival, Burning Man, National Championship Air Races, Hot Air Balloon Races, and a Sparks Farmers’ Market every Thursday night through the summer. In addition, the National Automobile Museum (The Harrah Collection) and the National Bowling Stadium, a tournament-only facility, are world-class attractions.

When you’re ready to relax, the Alamo Casino, the swimming pool at the Super 8 Hotel and the Petro Sparks Iron Skillet restaurant await.
