Newly renovated Ohio TA attracts drivers from every direction

By on September 8, 2015

If Lisa Toal could take her pick, she’d want the retro milk bottles.

As general manager of TA London, Ohio, Toal is familiar with all the gifts in the newly remodeled store, and she says there’s something for everyone.

“Right in the center we have unique gifts with everything from paintings to trucking gear to old fashioned glass milk jars like my mom used to get,” Toal says. “So now, if a driver is out on the road and they want to get something for their significant other, they don’t have to go anywhere else.”

The full-service approach continues outward from there. From clothing to toiletries to special military gifts, drivers can get pretty much anything they need at TA London, and since the travel center is so centrally located, that’s exactly what they do.

“We’re not that far out of Columbus, so drivers can come here to get away from the interstate, but if they want to go in to town for any reason, they’re close enough to do that, too,” Toal says. “We’re central to everything.”

One-stop shopping

ta-london4When the renovated TA London reopened in June, it unveiled many new or improved amenities:

  • A relaxation area with phone charging stations
  • New to-go food offerings, including fresh fruit and vegetables
  • Full-service Country Pride restaurant
  • Expanded Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen
  • Enhanced electronics selection
  • A new coffee bar and enlarged cooler with more beverage variety
  • Reserve-It parking
  • Pet area
  • DirecTV & NFL Sunday ticket

In addition, the location updated its restrooms and showers, even though both are already voted best for cleanliness by truckers across the country, year after year.

“I love the way everything turned out,” says Toal.

“The store has been opened up so much and it just looks awesome. We actually had someone in today who said it feels very homey. Everybody has been very impressed.”

Lots of food choices

ta-london1When it comes to grub, drivers have options. The updated Country Pride restaurant makes a great Reuben, as well as flatbreads you can top any way you like. (Toal says the breakfast variety is particularly tasty.) If it’s Cajun food you crave, grab some Popeyes and chow down while watching the new flat-screen TV. Two or three days a week, you can also partake in homemade BBQ that’s cooked right outside the store: ribs, burgers, chicken — you name it. It’s one of many ways TA London puts a personal spin on roadside service, all in the name of showing customers they care.

Lots of fun

“We try to do little things every day to show customers we care,” says shop general manager Brian Petry. “And we’ve been doing customer appreciation events for years. We’ve done dunk tanks, games, free food. For our grand re-opening we had horses, we had someone doing temporary tattoos; we even had Lindsay Lawler sing. It’s always a good time.”

Meet Angela Campbell and Sheryl Estep

On a daily basis, though, it’s the people who make TA London special — people like Angela Campbell, a customer service rep, for instance.

“Angela is always busy, she’s very helpful to customers, and if she doesn’t know, she asks,” says Toal. “I know if I give her a job, it’s going to be completed. The customers love her, and she’s a perfect example of our awesome customer service.”

Petry agrees, and is quick to point out that commitment to quality service extends to the shop as well.

“Other than location, I definitely think the best thing about TA London is our customer service,” he says. “In the shop, I’ve got Sheryl Estep who has been here for years and who people specifically ask for when they come in, which is the ultimate way to know you’re doing something right. The whole location does an outstanding job with that.”
