Almost Heaven

caryville-profileThe newly remodeled Caryville TA® Travel Center on I-75 at exit 141 in Eastern Tennessee is set smack-dab in the middle of a spectacular recreational paradise.

From camping and fishing to hunting, boating, water-skiing, hiking and biking trails, along with some of the most scenic and challenging ATV trails in the country, this area provides limitless activities for folks who love the great outdoors.

A descendant of Patrick Henry, William Carey, who settled in the area in the early 1800’s and became a county judge, is the city’s namesake. Interestingly, a selection of historical farming equipment actually used in the filming of Alex Haley’s smash TV series Roots is displayed in Caryville.

The area’s massive Norris Dam, the TVA’s first project started in 1933, created a beautiful 54 sq. mi. lake with 800 miles of shoreline. Located near the Cumberland Gap, the lake is surrounded by lush green, densely forested mountains. Wildlife is abundant here with deer roaming everywhere, and there’s a good chance you might see some elk.

Nearby Cove Lake State Park is a picture-postcard type of setting that features scenic camping grounds, picnic areas, hiking trails, a swimming pool, tennis courts and a workout course for fitness buffs.

The area’s most popular attraction is the magnificent 200,000-acre Ride Royal Blue Resort with over 600 miles of trails that wind up, around and through this majestic, often steep countryside. Whether you prefer ATVs, trail bikes, dual-sports, 4WD trucks, jeeps, rail buggies, or mountain bikes, you’ll find your ultimate challenge! Adventuresome riders negotiating the demanding trails are rewarded with breathtaking views.

Be sure to pack your camera, fishing tackle, hiking boots and/or your ATVs when you visit TA Caryville, because no matter what your chosen outdoor activity, you won’t see more natural beauty anywhere.
