New Anthem Attracting Attention

Based on booth-traffic observations, the Mack Anthem® in its Class 8 sleeper configurations drew plenty of interest among fleets and owner-operators at the recent Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, Kentucky. The company projects the Anthem’s bold, aerodynamic design and a host of driver-centric features will improve the bottom lines of OTR customers. Mack is also confident the increased Anthem interest will result in a larger share of the Class 8 market, projected to top 280,000 units during 2018.

“Since we launched the Mack Anthem, we’ve had tremendous response from dealers and customers,” said Jonathan Randall, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Mack Trucks North America. “We’re confident that this new model, built for business, designed for drivers, and supported by our industry-leading approach to uptime management, will continue to draw over-the-road customers to Mack.”

3% Aero Gain

The improved aerodynamics of the Mack Anthem’s hood, roof, chassis fairings, mirror covers, front bumper and air dam are expected to deliver a 3% gain in fuel efficiency compared to the Mack Pinnacle® Axle Back. The overall look remains distinctively Mack—big, strong and bold.

The new 70-inch sleeper provides full stand-up height, enabling even tall drivers to easily walk through the cab into the living environment, equipped with either a single or a double bunk. The company says the interior volume is 35% larger than previous models. A redesigned back wall and side cabinets provide up to 27 cu. ft. of storage, reportedly an industry best. A 48-in. flat-top sleeper and a day cab are also available.

8.8% Engine Gain

The Anthem is equipped with Mack’s proven, high-performing, integrated powertrain, including a Mack MP® engine; Mack mDRIVE™ automated, manual transmission; and Mack® axles. Available exclusively on the Anthem, a Mack MP®8 engine with turbo compounding captures lost energy and converts it into power, offering highway customers up to an 8.8 percent improvement in fuel economy over the Pinnacle Axle Back, without sacrificing power.

All Anthem models are supported by Mack GuardDog® Connect that integrates intelligent software, predictive analytics and driver-assist technologies into three production-boosting pillars: connected business, connected support and connected driving. The telematics-based solution monitors performance, detects potential issues before they become real ones, and triggers repair scheduling.
