IMPROVED DRIVER COMFORT, TECHNOLOGY & PERFORMANCE

Whether you’re an owner-operator who’s looking for a new 2020 model or you drive for a fleet that regularly replaces all or some of its trucks, you’ll likely enjoy reviewing the many new truck options that follow. The focus is on OTR sleeper-equipped trucks from all of the leading brands that are sure to be significant upgrades to an older model that you’re presently driving. On the following pages, you’ll find a short description, brief specs and accompanying photos. Not to be forgotten if you’re involved in heavy-haul, shorter listings of several new models appear on the last page of this special 2020 New Truck Showcase.

Freightliner Cascadia

The new Cascadia is the most advanced on-highway truck Freightliner has ever offered. Advanced aerodynamics help it slice through the air and boost fuel efficiency. The reimagined interior, starting with the dashboard, features an all-new instrument cluster and automotive-style steering wheel, controls and switch placement. Optional driver lounge incorporates dual-seat dining/working areas with a table-desk and a large, fold-down 40-inch by 80-inch bed. New refrigerator options, improved storage spaces that include shelving, a swing-out TV bracket for a 24-inch flat-panel TV, ambient lighting options and additional power outlets add convenience.

The Integrated Detroit™ Powertrain (IDP) is specifically designed, engineered and assembled to work as a single unit for optimal drivetrain efficiency. IDP integrates the most fuel-efficient DD15® and DD13® engines with the technologically advanced DT12™ transmission and specifically engineered Detroit steer and high-speed ratio tandem axles. The Detroit™ Connect suite of connected vehicle services is like having a business analyst, service technician and experienced consultant onboard.

Freightliner Cascadia Evolution

The Freightliner Cascadia Evolution sets the industry benchmark for long-haul applications that demand the highest levels of fuel efficiency. Freightliner Trucks engineers have also established new benchmarks for innovative design, ease of maintenance and state-of-the-art technology. International LT

The LT Series on-highway trucks are benefitting from advances in aerodynamics, powertrain and software systems that are increasing fuel efficiency in the 2020 product lineup. Fuel efficiency improvement for the LT Series is up 8.2% when comparing a fully equipped 2020 model to a unit built just one year ago.

Powerful, reliable, big-bore engines are also critical to fuel efficiency and uptime. Today, 60% of the Top 10 dedicated contract carriers are operating the LT Series powered by the International® A26 engine, which has been delivering optimal uptime and fuel efficiency in a lightweight design since its launch in early 2017.

Now standard on the 2020 LT Series, Predictive Cruise Control enables drivers to set average cruise speed, and the customer to define an allowable range above and below that average. The truck will then use topographical map data with the onboard GPS to adjust vehicle speed for maximum fuel efficiency and reduced foundation brake wear.

International Lone Star

Climb in, grab the leather-wrapped wheel and feast your eyes on the LoneStar interior. Every control, gauge and position come naturally, exactly as they should. This DriverFirst™ approach is based on the input of real truck drivers, sharing what they’ve learned over millions of miles through every situation imaginable. We listened closely to their feedback—then we redesigned, retuned and retested until drivers agreed that LoneStar raises the bar to a whole new level.

The interior is quieter than ever before, with more room for elbows, hips and legs to stretch out. Critical controls are at your fingertips, with new LED interior lighting for optimal visibility. There’s more storage space, too, positioned so you can easily reach what you need without cluttering up your workspace. Topping it all off comfortably is a powerful new HVAC system that generously circulates warm or cool air throughout the cab.

Kenworth T680

The Kenworth aerodynamic T680 on-highway flagship conventional tractor sets a high standard of excellence with superior fuel efficiency, performance and comfort for OTR fleets and owner-operators in line-haul and regional-hauling applications. The T680 is the standard PACCAR Powertrain features the MX-13 engine rated up to 510 hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque, 12-speed automated transmission, and 40K tandem rear axles. 

T680 driver-focused technologies—including TruckTech+ Remote Diagnostics, predictive and adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and collision mitigation, as well as the driver-performance assistant, power management, Kenworth Idle Management System, and the Kenworth Nav+ HD system—make life on the road much easier. Kenworth In-dash NavPlus HD system available. The optional “Driver’s Studio” package includes interior colors and options, and Kenworth seats with superior comfort, adjustability, ride suspension and personal climate control.

Kenworth W990

Continuing Kenworth’s tradition of offering driver-focused trucks, the W990 long-hood conventional establishes a new industry standard. It leverages the 68-year evolution of the iconic W900 platform to provide Kenworth customers with distinctive trucks that capture the pride, image, freedom, and spirit of trucking. The W990 comes standard with the proprietary PACCAR Powertrain consisting of the MX-13 engine rated up to 510-hp and 1,850 lb-ft of torque, 12-speed automated transmission and 40K tandem rear axles.

The optional “Driver’s Studio” package includes interior trim and color options, as well as seating options: optimized suspension and climate control features for superior comfort and adjustability. The W990 Limited Edition interior comes in midnight black with glossy Ravenwood door and dash trim accents. Additional features include rich black leather soft trim, an embroidered W990 logo in the sleeper, door pads with Royal Blue double-stitched diamond accents, and a black leather-wrapped steering wheel with Royal Blue stitching.

MACK Anthem

The bold, aerodynamic design and a host of driver-centric features characterize the Mack Anthem® introduced in 2018. The Mack Black Anthem, a special run of 500 Mack Anthem models, redefines what it means to operate in the black. Mack introduced the limited-edition Mack Black during the North American Commercial Vehicle (NACV) show in Atlanta during October 2019. Featuring a blacked-out exterior trim package and additional interior features, the Mack Black Anthem was presented as a badass looking truck.

The improved aerodynamics of the Mack Anthem’s hood, roof, chassis fairings, mirror covers, front bumper and air dam are expected to deliver a 3% gain in fuel efficiency compared to the Mack Pinnacle®. The overall look remains distinctively Mack—big, strong and bold. A 70-inch sleeper provides full stand-up height, enabling even tall drivers to easily walk through the cab into the living environment, equipped with either a single or a double bunk.

MACK Pinnacle

Peterbilt 579

Crafted from a rich history of proven quality and innovation, the Peterbilt 579 raised the bar for fuel efficiency, durability and safety, as well as driver comfort and productivity. That same passion for unrivaled performance characterizes what Peterbilt claims is its most fuel-efficient truck ever. 

The spacious and ergonomic cab interior is designed around the driver with everything in easy reach. Plenty of legroom under the dash and a fully adjustable steering column are driver favorites. A low dash brow maintains line-of-sight visibility.

Volvo VNL

The Volvo VNL is built for the needs of today’s—and tomorrow’s—long-haul trucking operations. The VNL delivers outstanding efficiency, along with premium comfort and amenities. The latest VNL builds on Volvo’s foundation—fuel efficiency, driver productivity, safety, and uptime—with precise refinements based on drivers’ needs, optimized to keep your business competitive. A completely reshaped front end features improved airflow, along with state-of-the-art LED lighting for improved visibility and reduced maintenance. Inside, seating has been ergonomically optimized.

The VNL dashboard has been organized to reduce distraction by displaying critical information at a quick glance and by grouping frequently used controls within easy reach. The VNL sleeper was designed to provide a calm, restful space. A full 70” sleeper option provides an efficient yet spacious living area. The bunks are broader and more stable, featuring embedded spring mattresses surrounded by an extra layer of foam. 

VOLVO VNR

The new Volvo VNR 660 is an addition to the VNR Series, which includes the 300, 400 and 640 models. The 660 expands the Volvo offerings for regional-haul applications with specs related to length, weight and driver comfort. Available for order in the first quarter of 2020, the new VNR 660 model addresses the needs of regional-haul customers looking to decrease vehicle weight and enabling the use of longer trailer sizes without sacrificing efficiency. The 660 offers the comfort and extra space of a high-roof sleeper, increasing driver comfort.

A shorter 164” bumper to back-of-cab length offers both weight savings from decreasing the overall size of the truck and the option to use more versatile tractor-trailer combinations for increased cargo capacity. The VNR 660 includes the shorter hood design of the VNR product line, providing optimized visibility, excellent maneuverability in urban areas and easy docking in tight spaces.

Western Star 5700XE

The Western Star 5700 takes what you love about aero trucks—namely the ride and fuel economy—and gives them an edge with aggressive styling that’s as efficient as it is unique. Best of all, the 5700 gives you the excellent performance, world-beating toughness and dependability you expect.

Heavy Haulers

A special tip of the cap goes to the heavy-haul drivers who move oversize and/or overweight loads too large for road travel without escorts and special permits. A heavy hauler typically consists of a heavy tractor and a multi-axle lowboy trailer. These special rigs haul extremely large and/or extremely heavy loads such as electrical transformers, boilers, large construction and mining equipment, wind farm towers and components, and other outsized industrial products. Although annual unit sales are relatively low, brief specifications for these special trucks are presented here. 

Freightliner 122SD

With power, maneuverability, visibility and bottom-line efficiency, Freightliner 122SD severe-duty, heavy-haul trucks pack the extreme strength and efficiency necessary to get on the toughest hauling jobs locally or cross country.

International HX Series

Kenworth T500B

To meet the needs of virtually any heavy-haul application, the Mack Granite is available in 4×2, 6×4 and 8×6 configurations with a choice of axle-forward or axle-back. Volvo VNX

The Volvo VNX heavy-haul heavy hitters are built specifically for the needs of heavy-haul trucking operations. Available with up to 605 hp and 2,050 lb-ft of torque, the VNX provides the power and performance demanded for a wide range of over-the-road heavy-haul applications including long, combination vehicles.

Western Star 6900 XD Extreme Duty
